I've shared with you this week an article from the Calgary Herald titled: Alberta cash bolsters Ottawa. I am interested in your thoughts. Do you think that it is fair that Albertans send more tax money to Ottawa than we get back? Do you think we should be entitled to receive back from Ottawa the same dollar amount in services as we pay to Ottawa? Do you think that because we are such a rich province that it is OK that some of our riches are spread amongst the less fortunate provinces? What are your thoughts?
This is not a blog for marks but I just wanted to hear your comments. (A couple of interesting pictures below.)
Test. This is the first time I do blogging. I'll test it first.
ReplyDeleteEconomically,it depends whether you are a believer of Friedman and his School of Chicago economists, no government should involve; or a believer of Keynesian school that government should invlove. Politically and socialogically, it depends on whether you are a follower of Ayn Rand or Karl Marx. Calgarians send all their school taxes to the province and the province distribute it to various municipalities. Calgarians do not get 100% back on the tax dollars that they pay out. Some of it is allocated to smaller rural area where the tax base can not support the local schools. Should Calgarians protest and ask for a separation from Alberta? Northern Alberta with its oil sand contributes most to the Alberta's wealth. Should they ask for a separation from the Southern Alberta? The SW LRT is being built. It is partly funded by the city taxes and the rest from provincial and federal taxes. The SW residents are getting benefit from it but the residents in the SE who also contribute to the project but receive no benefit. Should the SE residents protest and ask for a separation from the rest of the city? I make more money than my husband and contribute more financially to the family. Should I protest and ask for a separation/divorce from my husband? I think the answer is dependent on whether you want to be a proud Canadian and you are concerned with the general goods of Canada; whether you want to be a proud Albertan and concerned about the general goods of Alberta; whether you want to be a proud Calgarian and concerned about the general goods of Calgary; whehter you are proud of your family and wants to have a happy, loving relationship in the family.
